September 23 at Dolphins (23-20)

Jets punter Robert Malone congratulates
kicker Nick Folk on his game-winning
overtime field goal.
In case you were missing the cardiac Jets, they showed up today in their win at Miami. While I prefer the solid team that destroyed Buffalo two weeks ago, I'll take the W.

But this was an ugly game, even for division rivals like these two. It started off slow for New York, with Mark Sanchez throwing an interception in the first quarter that the Dolphins promptly capitalized on with the first touchdown of the game. They went on to score another field goal. But just as we started to lose the grip on this game and yet another drive was coming to a premature end,  Tim Tebow found a hole, faked the punt, and rushed for the first down. It was a momentum shift back in the Jets' favor, one that came just on time.

That drive ended in a field goal, giving a much more optimistic feel to a 3-7 deficit at half time. The second half descended into chaos, however, in both good ways and bad. The bad: Sanchez threw an interception to the end zone, ending what had been a great drive. And Darrelle Revis hurt his leg which kept him out for the rest of the game. (He has an MRI scheduled for tomorrow. Hope for the best.)  But, the good: safety LaRon Landry intercepted Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill and returned it for a touchdown.

Although the Jets went on to score 10 more points in the fourth quarter, the game became a stalemate by that point, riddled with fouls and injuries constantly. The Dolphins got a game tying field with 0:16 on the clock and sent it to overtime.

There the Jets won the coin toss but did not score on their first drive. The Dolphins ended their first possession with a 48-yard field goal attempt and it was...wide left! Miraculously, 4 hours into this game taking place at Stress Stadium, I hadn't passed out yet. On the next drive, Santonio Holmes completed a huge catch for a 32-yard gain. That set up Nick Folk's easy field goal to barely come out of Miami with a 2-1 start.

I understand these are division rivals that like to fight for every inch, but we have a lot of work to do. We face a tough two-week stretch now against playoff-caliber teams. However, they are at home and if we unleash the team that I know we are deep down, the team that crushed the Bills in Week 1, we'll do okay.
