November 22 vs. Patriots (19-49)
I want to believe, Rex, I really do. But you make it so hard. Take this past game, on Thanksgiving. With the whole country watching us, we had probably the most embarrassing minute of football I've ever seen. Fumbles on offense and special teams, blown coverages on defense, allowing the Patriots to rack up three touchdowns in one minute of playtime. All together the Patriots scored 35 unanswered points in the second quarter thanks to a greatest hits collection of this season's idiotic mistakes.
But trust me, I'm not going anywhere. The Jets are my team and I still believe, somehow, that if we clean up these crazy errors we can still be great. Mathematically, there is still a reason to have hope. At 4-7, winning the final five games would bring us to a winning record at 9-7 and the possibility of a playoff spot. Who knows what could happen to everyone else in the hunt? Five games is a long time in the National Football League, after all.
But this season's caliber of play so far gives me serious doubts. The next five games are supposedly "winnable," but is any game really winnable when you have barely shown your ability to actually win games? And how exactly are we supposed to win five in a row? Five? We haven't even won two in a row since last year.
But as long as it's still possible, I'll keep my faith, Rex. I want this team to win because I always will. But enough saying that you're going to get better. Prove it on the field.
